MAAS Mining Ventures – South & North

Barite Mining Operations by MAAS International Services

Overview

MAAS International Services is a leader in the Barite mining industry (private sector) in Pakistan, with a strong commitment to responsible mining practices and community development. We operate a diverse portfolio of mines across the Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK), and other regions of Pakistan. With a focus on meeting both domestic and international market demands, we continue to expand our operations while maintaining sustainable practices that benefit local communities and contribute to the growth of the mining sector in Pakistan.

Our Mining Locations

MAAS International Services owns and operates multiple Barite mines across the country. Our primary mining sites are located in the Balochistan province (Districts Lasbela and Khuzdar), with additional operations in the KPK province. The mines in Balochistan, located in Mori, Chilro, Pir Konano, and Golari, cover an area of approximately 40 km², with estimated reserves ranging from 1 to 1.5 million tons.

We operate the following mines in Pakistan:

Balochistan (Districts Lasbela & Khuzdar):

    • Uthal
    • Bela Region
    • Pir Konano
    • Golari
    • Wadh
    • Khuzdar
    • Chaghai
    • Basima
    • Kharan

    • Khanano Dheri (Buner)
    • Rustam – Swabi (KPK)

Partnership with Local Stakeholders

In addition to operating our own mines, MAAS collaborates with local mine owners across Pakistan. Many mines in the country are run on a small scale by local operators. We work in partnership with these local stakeholders, providing financial and logistical support, while the mine is operated by local owners. This collaboration ensures a mutually beneficial relationship that strengthens the mining industry at the grassroots level.

All Barite extracted from these mines is supplied to MAAS yards located in both southern and northern Pakistan, ensuring smooth operations and effective distribution.

Supporting Low-Grade Barite Production

MAAS is committed to bringing value to the local mining community by providing opportunities for owners of low-grade Barite mines. We offer a platform for these mine owners to process and upgrade their Barite through our planned Beneficiation Plant. This initiative helps local owners extract greater value from their resources and meet the growing demand for high-quality Barite, both locally and internationally.

To further enhance the quality of low-grade Barite, MAAS is also in collaboration with third-party washing plants to upgrade these materials, adding value to the local market and improving the supply chain.

Community Impact

At MAAS, we recognize that mining is not just an economic endeavor but also an opportunity to improve the lives of local communities. Our operations generate jobs, create opportunities, and foster economic growth, especially in remote and underserved areas. Through our partnership with local mine owners and stakeholders, we provide access to employment and enable individuals to establish small-scale businesses.

In addition, we are committed to addressing the socio-economic needs of the communities we serve. By providing access to essential services, such as clean drinking water, road infrastructure, and healthcare, we are helping to uplift the living standards of those in these remote regions. For example, many locals have been drinking water from contaminated streams, which causes severe health issues. MAAS is working to bring freshwater access and basic first aid services to these areas, ultimately improving the quality of life for the people.

Engineering Excellence in Mining

MAAS is not only focused on mining but also on the sustainable development and improvement of mining practices in Pakistan. Our team of experts in geology and geophysics conducts thorough surveys and analysis to ensure mines are properly assessed and optimized. We work with local communities to ensure mining operations are carried out in a safe, environmentally responsible, and efficient manner.

We also focus on mines that have been previously exploited using improper techniques, which have led to the wastage of potential resources. Our experts survey and redesign such mines, ensuring they are operated in an engineered way that maximizes yield and benefits all stakeholders.

Our Approach to Mining

MAAS conducts mining ventures in a mechanized and engineered way, following industry best practices at every stage of the process. Here is an overview of our mining operations:

Exploration

Our geologists identify potential Barite deposits through geological surveys, aerial surveys, and other exploration techniques. By studying rock formations and analyzing core samples, we assess the quality and quantity of Barite deposits.

Beneficiation and processing

Once extracted, the Barite ore undergoes beneficiation and processing to enhance its quality. We employ advanced techniques and state-of-the-art technology to ensure our Barite meets the highest standards for domestic and international markets.

Site Preparation

Once a promising deposit is identified, we prepare the mining site by clearing vegetation, constructing access roads, and setting up essential infrastructure to support the mining operation.

extraction

Barite is extracted using open-pit mining or underground mining, depending on the nature and depth of the deposit. Open-pit mining is typically employed when the Barite deposit is near the surface, using heavy equipment like bulldozers and excavators to remove overburden and extract the Barite ore. The ore is then transported to our processing plants for further refinement.

Commitment to Sustainable Practices

We understand that mining in remote areas presents significant challenges, including the need for new infrastructure. The high costs involved in developing access roads and other necessary infrastructure require careful planning. MAAS ensures that comprehensive geological studies and feasibility assessments are conducted to mitigate risks and ensure that mining ventures are financially viable and sustainable.

Future Vision

MAAS International Services is committed to the continued growth of Pakistan’s mining sector. We aim to lead the industry toward a new era of modern, engineered, and sustainable mining practices. Our efforts focus on improving the mining infrastructure, providing opportunities for local communities, and increasing the value of mined Barite, both domestically and internationally.

We invite all mine owners and stakeholders to join us in our vision of transforming Pakistan’s mining sector as profitable and sustainable mining industry. Our doors are always open to those who wish to collaborate and benefit from our expertise in geological surveys, mine design, and sustainable mining practices.
